Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 9, 2026 · MealMatch ("MealMatch," "we," "us")

MealMatch helps you track your nutrition, plan meals matched to your goals, order groceries, and learn to cook. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: your health data is used only to power your experience — never for advertising, and never sold.

1. Information we collect

Profile you provide: height, weight, age, sex, activity level, goals, dietary preferences, pantry items, and taste ratings.
Nutrition logs: foods you log, photos you submit for food recognition, meal plans, and cooking activity.
Health data (optional, with your explicit permission): if you connect Apple Health, we read activity energy, steps, workouts, sleep, heart-rate metrics, and body weight to calibrate your targets. Apple Health data is read on your device with your consent, is used only to provide app functionality, is never used for advertising or marketing, and is never sold or shared with data brokers, consistent with Apple's HealthKit requirements.
Ordering data: the shopping lists you create. Checkout is completed on the grocery retailer's own platform under that retailer's privacy policy (e.g., Kroger's); we do not receive or store your payment card details.
Account & device data: account identifiers (e.g., Sign in with Apple), device type, app version, and diagnostic logs.

2. How we use it

To calculate calorie and macronutrient targets and adapt them to your progress.
To generate meal plans, shopping lists, and cooking guidance matched to your preferences.
To process food photos you submit for AI food recognition (processed to produce estimates; not used to identify people).
To operate, secure, and improve the service (aggregate, de-identified analytics only).
To process subscriptions through Apple's App Store.

3. What we never do

We never sell your personal information.
We never use health or nutrition data for advertising or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We never add hidden fees or markups to your grocery orders.

4. Sharing

We share data only with service providers that power the app — cloud hosting and database (Supabase), AI inference for food recognition and plan personalization, Apple (subscriptions, Sign in with Apple), and your chosen grocery retailer, such as Kroger (when you choose to send a shopping list or fill a cart) — each bound to use it solely to provide their service. We may disclose information if required by law, or in a merger/acquisition with notice to you.

5. Sponsored suggestions

If we ever show a sponsored ingredient or product suggestion, it will be clearly labeled "sponsored," will match your nutrition targets, and will never be influenced by your health data being shared with the sponsor.

6. Retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time in Profile → Reset, or by emailing privacy@mealmatch.ai. Deletion completes within 30 days.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is restricted by row-level security so only your authenticated account can read your records.

8. Your rights

Depending on your state or country (including California CCPA/CPRA and EU/UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to opt out of certain processing. Contact privacy@mealmatch.ai — we honor these requests for everyone regardless of location.

9. Children

MealMatch is not intended for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Health disclaimer

MealMatch provides general wellness information, not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Consult a qualified professional before starting any nutrition program, especially if you have a medical condition or history of disordered eating.
